Shankar Mahadevan is an Indian singer and composer known for his work in Indian classical music, Hindu spiritual music, and Bollywood film scores. He gained recognition as a playback singer in the 1994 film "In Custody" before transitioning from a career in software engineering.
In 1997, Mahadevan teamed up with Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani to form the film-scoring trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, which went on to compose music for over 75 Bollywood films. Notably, their score for the 2003 movie "Kal Ho Naa Ho" became India's top-selling album of the year. In 2010, Mahadevan established the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, a school dedicated to the study of Indian classical music. He received the Padma Shri award in 2019 for his contributions to film music and public service.
